As fighting intensified in Ukraine, financial markets continued to bid up energy and agricultural commodity prices. Oil tacked on another 5.5% and natural gas, which Australia is the third largest exporter of, hit a record high. Wheat jumped to a fourteen year high. AUSUSD topped the 0.7300 mark and recorded its highest close since November 16th.

As fighting intensified in Ukraine, the market volatility index recorded its highest close since January 28th. Oil soared through the $100 mark, jumping 8.7% to $104 a barrel. Talks between Ukraine and Russia did not yield material results as Russia continued its advance whilst also suffering losses. The Rouble dropped as much as 30% whilst the central bank raised interest rates from 9.5% to 20% and barred capital from leaving the country. Companies continued to divest from Russia with Shell the latest to dispose of oil assets.
